Abstract This data set contains images acquired by the OSIRIS Narrow Angle Camera during the CRUISE 2 mission phase
Description Data Set Overview = This data set contains science, calibration and checkout images acquired by the OSIRIS Narrow Angle Camera system on the Rosetta mission. The images were acquired during the CRUISE 2 mission phase covering the period from 2005-04-05 to 2006-07-29. The images are CODMAC level 2. The CRUISE-2 mission phase was used nominally only for instrument checkout. Of scientific interest the OSIRIS camera was operated during the NASA Deep Impact spacecraft encounter with Comet Tempel 1. The OSIRIS dataset contains about three weeks of monitoring observations of the impact cloud plus a sequence of hight speed imaging around the Deep Impact encounter itself. The dataset covers the following discrete activities: ---------------------------------------------------Activity: Deep Impact of type: SCIENCE Period from: 2005-06-28 to: 2005-07-14 Observations: Deep Impact ---------------------------------------------------Activity: PC1 of type: CHECKOUT Period from: 2005-10-04 to: 2005-10-04 Observations: PC1 ---------------------------------------------------Activity: PC2 of type: CHECKOUT Period from: 2006-03-08 to: 2006-03-08 Observations: PC2 ---------------------------------------------------Activity: Steins Lightcurve of type: SCIENCE Period from: 2006-03-11 to: 2006-03-12 Observations: Steins Lightcurve ---------------------------------------------------Essential Reading ----------------The following documents, located on the dataset DOCUMENT folder, are essential for the understanding and interpretation of this data set: OSIRIS_SSR.PDF: Gives an overview of the science goals of the OSIRIS instrument and an overview of the instrument hardware. The spacecraft carries a Rosetta Lander, named Philae, to the nucleus and deploys it onto its surface. A brief description of the mission and its objectives can be found in the Rosetta Science Management Plan [RO-EST-PL-0001] and in papers [GLASSMEIERETAL2007A]. A detailed description of the mission analysis can be found in the Consolidated Report on Mission Analysis [RO-ESC-RP-5500], the ROSETTA User Manual [RO-DSS-MA-1001], and the flight Operations Plan [RO-ESC-PL-50...
