Abstract The Micro-Imaging Dust Analysis System (MIDAS) is an instrument on the ROSETTA Orbiter that will provide 3D images and statistical parameters of pristine cometary particles, collected in the vicinity of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. This data set includes reference measurement data acquired with the flight spare unit (FS) on ground, which was used for improving the accuracy of the images gathered by the actual flight unit and to develop adequate measuement procedures for flight. The test data was collected during several years and spawns several data sets, in order to keep the individual data set size on a reasonable level. The current dataset contains data from 2008.
Description Details on the time interval of this particular data set are given in the following description and the introductory section of AAREADME.TXT. This dataset includes ground-based MIDAS reference measurement data, acquired 2008 in an laboratory with the flight spare instrument. The following images can be found in the dataset (for a given image, the name of the respective label file is composed of the file path associated with the preceding flight spare data acquistion period FS_XXXX and the image identifier listed in the second column): ---------------------------------------------------------------------Scenario DAQ (YYDDDhhmm) Target Tip ImgSize StepSize D MM (D = main scan direction, MM = measurement mode) ---------------------------------------------------------------------FS_2008 /DATA/IMG/IMG_0800909_0828416__ZS.LBL ---------------------------------------------------------------------001 080211103-080211329 5 DAQ 1 256x 64 0x 0 X DYN 003 080311542-080311551 5 DAQ 1 32x 32 0x 0 X DYN 005 080501000-080501239 1 DAQ 1 256x128 256x 256 X DYN 007 080650923-080651529 1 DAQ 1 256x256 1x 1 X DYN 009 080701420-080702036 1 DAQ 1 256x256 1x 1 X DYN 011 080711513-080720308 1 DAQ 1 128x128 282x 282 X DYN 013 080780950-080782144 1 DAQ 1 128x128 282x 282 X DYN 015 080801004-080802200 1 DAQ 1 128x128 282x 282 X DYN 017 081011703-081020459 1 DAQ 1 128x128 282x 282 X DYN 019 081020939-081022135 1 DAQ 1 128x128 252x 252 X DYN 021 081022151-081030954 1 DAQ 1 128x256 57x 57 X DYN 023 081071142-081072336 1 DAQ 1 128x128 282x 282 X DYN 025 081081507-081090308 1 DAQ 1 128x128 282x 282 X DYN 027 081120838-081130830 2 CAL 1 128x256 42x 42 X DYN 029 081120838-081130830 2 CAL 1 128x256 42x 42 X DYN 031 081120838-081130830 2 CAL 1 128x256 42x 42 X DYN 033 081120838-081130830 2 CAL 1 128x256 42x 42 X DYN 034 081131205-081141157 2 CAL 1 128x256 42x 42 X DYN 036 081281451-081291444 2 CAL 1 128x256 42x 42 X DYN 038 081361000-081370953 2 ...

The spacecraft carries a Rosetta Lander, named Philae, to the nucleus and deploys it onto its surface. A brief description of the mission and its objectives can be found in [GLASSMEIERETAL2007A]. A detailed description of the mission analysis can be found in the ROSETTA User Manual [RO-DSS-MA-1001], and the flight Operations Plan [RO-ESC-PL-5000]. On its long way to the comet nucleus after a Launch by Ariane 5 P1+ in March 2004, the ROSETTA spacecraft orbited the Sun ...
