==================================================================== this proposal is devoted to the detection of solid oxygen, by its absorption band at 6.45 micron, in interstellar grains around a protostellar object carefully selected for this purpose. a positive detection would be a first and would bring another important key to grain surface chemistry. it will help to locate the missing oxygen column density which is a current problem of astrochemistry. ====================================================================

Mission Description
The Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) was the worlds first true orbiting infrared observatory. Equipped with four highly-sophisticated and versatile scientific instruments, it was launched by Ariane in November 1995 and provided astronomers world-wide with a facility of unprecedented sensitivity and capabilities for a detailed exploration of the Universe at infrared wavelengths.
