Description the differences observed in the emission from different types of active galactic nuclei has been suggested to arise as a result of different viewing angles with a torus of obscuring matter hiding the broad line emitting region in some sources. broad absorption line quasars are a subset of radio quiet quasars which may be distinguished from other radio quiet quasars because our line of sight intercepts absorbing material. we will measure the 10 to 160 micron output of a sample of bal quasars and compare it to a sample of non-bal quasars to test whether a unification model is valid and to learn more about the properties of the broad absorption line region such as the fraction of the light that it obscures.

Mission Description The Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) was the worlds first true orbiting infrared observatory. Equipped with four highly-sophisticated and versatile scientific instruments, it was launched by Ariane in November 1995 and provided astronomers world-wide with a facility of unprecedented sensitivity and capabilities for a detailed exploration of the Universe at infrared wavelengths.
