Abstract Four years ago, we initiated a multi-year program (AO-16-19) aimed at the creation of an ultra-deep extragalactic field centered on the M81 galaxy. We are requesting a continuation of the program in AO-20, to further improve the sensitivity in this field. This ultra-deep field will become INTEGRALs legacy for studies of the AGN population at hard X-ray fluxes as low as 2x10^-12 erg s^-1 cm^-2, and will provide a ground for the unique synergy of INTEGRAL with the all-sky X-ray surveys by the eROSITA and ART-XC telescopes on board the SRG, which has already covered the entire sky four times. This field also opens up an unprecedented view on transient energetic events, such as FRBs, ULXs etc., occurring in the nearby group of galaxies. We are asking for 2.5Ms of observations to be performed in the AO-20.

Mission Description The INTEGRAL (International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory) mission, launched by the European Space Agency (ESA) on October 17, 2002, was designed to study high-energy phenomena in the universe. INTEGRAL was operating until february 2025 and it was equipped with three high-energy instruments: the Imager on Board the INTEGRAL Satellite (IBIS), the Spectrometer on INTEGRAL (SPI), and the JEM-X (Joint European Monitor for X-rays). Its Optical Monitoring Camera (OMC) provided optical V-band magnitude measurements, complementing the high-energy observations.
