Abstract As part of a large multi-wavelength campaign, IXPE will observe the enigmatic X-ray binary Cyg X-3 between October 31 and November 6. A previous observing campaign earlier this month brought very surprising results regarding the X-ray polarization of this target, and thus preparations for another comprehensive observing campaign is underway. We propose that INTEGRAL will join this effort, providing unique coverage in the hard X-band as NuSTAR will be observing Cyg X-3 during this second observing run for only a small fraction of that period. Previous experience with IXPE has shown that complementary broad band multiwavelength coverage is crucially important to decompose the polarization data when multiple spectral components contribute to the IXPE band, as is the case here. Two exposures of 100 ks (5x5 pattern) during INTEGRAL revolutions 2567 and 2568 would allow us to measure the shape of the high-energy spectrum and the intensity of the Compton hump during the campaign (Swift/BAT indicates 130 mCrab fluxes), while simultaneous NICERmonitoring will keep a close track of the iron line region and the 1-10 keV continuum shape.

Mission Description The INTEGRAL (International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory) mission, launched by the European Space Agency (ESA) on October 17, 2002, was designed to study high-energy phenomena in the universe. INTEGRAL was operating until february 2025 and it was equipped with three high-energy instruments: the Imager on Board the INTEGRAL Satellite (IBIS), the Spectrometer on INTEGRAL (SPI), and the JEM-X (Joint European Monitor for X-rays). Its Optical Monitoring Camera (OMC) provided optical V-band magnitude measurements, complementing the high-energy observations.
