Abstract Cyg X-1 is the best candidate to understand the X/gammaray emission of Galactic X-Ray Binaries. Being the hardest and brightest persistent one, it offers the unique opportunity to get crucial information about the phenomenon at work in its central parts, where accretion and ejection, thermal and non-thermal mechanisms as well as other complex physics coexist. A lot of work has been done recently with major results in the spectral, timing and polarisation fields around this object. This strongly encourages us to pursue our effort with deep and continuous analyses. Since more than 4 years, Cyg X-1 is staying in an unusually long Soft State, interrupted by some tentative incursions in Intermediate/Hard states. Both the Soft State periods and the hardening episodes conceal invaluable information on the source behaviour. Long accumulation time is required if one wants to reveal the real source behaviour above 100-200 keV, in particular the polarisation properties in the Hard and Intermediate States, the spectral evolution during the Soft States, as well as timing properties in all states. The monitoring of the high energy part of the Cyg X-1 emission, along with the corresponding polarization properties, their variability and the correlation between different parameters (source intensity, hardness, polarisation fraction), potentially in the different spectral states, will reveal us the roles played by the various ingredients present in this source and its analogues. Note furthermore that the region of Cyg X-1 is very rich of different targets, mostly High Mass X-ray Binary systems and will also open a large field of additional science for the INTEGRAL users.

Version 1.0
Mission Description The INTEGRAL (International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory) mission, launched by the European Space Agency (ESA) on October 17, 2002, was designed to study high-energy phenomena in the universe. INTEGRAL was operating until february 2025 and it was equipped with three high-energy instruments: the Imager on Board the INTEGRAL Satellite (IBIS), the Spectrometer on INTEGRAL (SPI), and the JEM-X (Joint European Monitor for X-rays). Its Optical Monitoring Camera (OMC) provided optical V-band magnitude measurements, complementing the high-energy observations.
