Abstract We ask for four 90 ks long observations of the high mass X-ray binary 4U 1907+09, spread out over INTEGRALs AO6. The source shows a rich phenomenology and might be a missing link with respect to Supergiant Fast X-ray Transients. The observations will allow us to study the dip/non-dip duty cycle of the source. They will represent one of the best data sets to date to test our newly developed physical models for cyclotron lines for a moderately bright source since 4U 1907+09 is persistent (although dipping and flaring) and shows two lines. Also, after almost 20 years of continuous spin down, 4U 1907+09 was recently discovered by our team to have undergone a torque reversal episode and is now spinning up. This type of behavior is very rare and monitoring the pulse period evolution now provides a unique opportunity to constrain models for the torquing of the neutron star by the accreted material.

Mission Description The INTEGRAL (International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory) mission, launched by the European Space Agency (ESA) on October 17, 2002, was designed to study high-energy phenomena in the universe. INTEGRAL was operating until february 2025 and it was equipped with three high-energy instruments: the Imager on Board the INTEGRAL Satellite (IBIS), the Spectrometer on INTEGRAL (SPI), and the JEM-X (Joint European Monitor for X-rays). Its Optical Monitoring Camera (OMC) provided optical V-band magnitude measurements, complementing the high-energy observations.
