Abstract We propose to use INTEGRAL SPI and IBIS to measure gamma-ray lines and hard X-ray continua to help clarify the mechanisms, nucleosynthesis, and dynamics of sufficiently nearby supernovae of any type. These have always been major objectives of the INTEGRAL mission, and gamma-ray line astronomy in general, but are yet to be achieved, with the notable exception of SN 1987A. The requested observations range from relatively short studies of continuum emission from supernova ejecta interactions with circumstellar matter to multiple observations of very nearby events, as we hope to watch the ejecta unfold to reveal the radioactivity within. We define the Target of Opportunity trigger criteria clearly for each category of event by specifying a complete list of potential host galaxies. Although there is a low probability of any of these events in a given year, there is a significant chance of one or more objects meeting our criteria in the remaining years of the INTEGRAL mission.

Mission Description The INTEGRAL (International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory) mission, launched by the European Space Agency (ESA) on October 17, 2002, was designed to study high-energy phenomena in the universe. INTEGRAL was operating until february 2025 and it was equipped with three high-energy instruments: the Imager on Board the INTEGRAL Satellite (IBIS), the Spectrometer on INTEGRAL (SPI), and the JEM-X (Joint European Monitor for X-rays). Its Optical Monitoring Camera (OMC) provided optical V-band magnitude measurements, complementing the high-energy observations.
