Abstract The high energy spectra of Seyfert galaxies are highly complex, comprising of at least a hard power law with high energy cutoff, a Compton reflection bump (signature of the accretion disk?) peaking between 10keV and 30keV, a warm absorber below 2 keV and an iron emission feature near 6.4 keV. In order to accurately measure these various components, observations are needed with good signal-to-noise, high sensitivity and broad bandwidth. We propose simultaneous INTEGRAL and XMM-Newton observations of two Seyfert galaxies, Mkn 590 (type 1) and NGC 7172 (type 2). The main goal of this INTEGRAL proposal is to accurately diagnose the strength and ionisation state of the reflection bump In addition we intend to accurately measure the energy of the power law high energy cutoff, and possibly search for any systematic effects in these spectral components due to the orientation of the system to the line-of-sight

Mission Description The INTEGRAL (International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory) mission, launched by the European Space Agency (ESA) on October 17, 2002, was designed to study high-energy phenomena in the universe. INTEGRAL was operating until february 2025 and it was equipped with three high-energy instruments: the Imager on Board the INTEGRAL Satellite (IBIS), the Spectrometer on INTEGRAL (SPI), and the JEM-X (Joint European Monitor for X-rays). Its Optical Monitoring Camera (OMC) provided optical V-band magnitude measurements, complementing the high-energy observations.
