Abstract We propose a Target of Opportunity Observation of the recurrent pulsating transient X0115+63 in Outburst. We propose two observations of 200 ksec each (total 400 ksec) to be performed at two different luminosity states, according to a strategy that depends on the type of the outburst. The key scientific objectives of the proposal are: measurement of the position, width and depth of multiple harmonics across the pulse phase; measurement of the shapes of the harmonic so to test the different models for line formation; study of the dependence of the cyclotron structures on the luminosity and possibly measure the physical heights of the scattering region; measurement of the QPO and testing of the rotating warp/lump model. We will also search for red-shifted gamma-ray lines, particularly 2.2 MeV photons from deuterium formation from nuclear processes at the neutron star polar cap.

Mission Description The INTEGRAL (International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory) mission, launched by the European Space Agency (ESA) on October 17, 2002, was designed to study high-energy phenomena in the universe. INTEGRAL was operating until february 2025 and it was equipped with three high-energy instruments: the Imager on Board the INTEGRAL Satellite (IBIS), the Spectrometer on INTEGRAL (SPI), and the JEM-X (Joint European Monitor for X-rays). Its Optical Monitoring Camera (OMC) provided optical V-band magnitude measurements, complementing the high-energy observations.
