  • Abstract: The resonant/near-resonant state of multi-planetary systems contains clues to their formation and subsequent evolution through disc migration and tidal dissipation. Physical quantities such as densities, eccentricities, distance to 2-body or 3-body resonances, and the amplitude of libration of resonant angles subtly encode the systems history. These quantities can be estimated by observing transit timing variations in the system. The program aims to use CHEOPS high-precision photometry and versatility, coupled with orbital dynamics modelling to : 1- constrain the resonant state of systems, 2- Look for (density-period) correlations inside known multi-planetary systems and (help to) determine their mass-radius-period relationship, and 3 - Look for additional planets in these compact multi-planetary systems to improve our knowledge of their architecture.

Mission Description CHEOPS (Benz et al., https://doi.org/10.1007/s10686-020-09679-4) is a European Space Agency (ESA) mission in partnership with Switzerland with important contributions to the payload and the ground segment from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

The satellite has a single payload comprising an ultra-high precision photometer covering the 330 - 1100 nm wavelength range in a single photometric band. Observations are made as part of the Guaranteed Time Observing Programme that is formulated by the CHEOPS Science Team, and the Guest Observers Programme through which the Community at large can apply for CHEOPS time.
