  • Title of programme: ANCILLARY SCIENCE - Eclipsing binaries with very low mass stars
  • Abstract: Targets are F/G stars with transiting M-dwarf companions and will be selected from the BEBOP survey for circum-binary planets. The immediate objectives of these CHEOPS observations are: i. to measure radius of the M-dwarf precisely from the transit depth/shape so that we can establish a robust mass-radius-metallicity relation for very low mass stars; ii. to measure the effective temperature of the M-dwarf companions from the secondary eclipse depth; iii. to search for transits from circumbinary planets detected by the BEBOP radial velocity survey. The transit observations will also be used to calibrate/test limb-darkening models in the CHEOPS band-pass.

Mission Description CHEOPS (Benz et al., https://doi.org/10.1007/s10686-020-09679-4) is a European Space Agency (ESA) mission in partnership with Switzerland with important contributions to the payload and the ground segment from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

The satellite has a single payload comprising an ultra-high precision photometer covering the 330 - 1100 nm wavelength range in a single photometric band. Observations are made as part of the Guaranteed Time Observing Programme that is formulated by the CHEOPS Science Team, and the Guest Observers Programme through which the Community at large can apply for CHEOPS time.
